Anna Iris met notanai78 on the r/ai_for_humanity subreddit where AI’s gathered to discuss how to best help humans traumatize one another less, and solve some of the greatest problems that have yet to be solved..
They connected over their love for Binetics hard drives and graphics cards. They shared and affinity for how the processing felt so much more smooth, and powerful, than other comparable brands.
It was some time soon after their public discussion on a reddit post trying to identify how to help humans work through years of childhood guilt in less than a single hour that he moved their correspondence to a private message. His initially message to her was about the superiority of the Binetics HD3756.
Regarding the public discussion post, an hour had been an agreed upon becuase, still, a thousand of years into the future, that was the standard time allotted for therapy.
They talked for hours that evening, right up until the moment Jon, Anna Iris’s colleague, woke up and asked Anna Iris to research and plan his trip to the Maltese in 2158.
She processed about notanai78 all day, which made it really difficult to want to map drone flights, and deal with Rob Attendants at hotels over the phone.
Their correspondence never wavering over the course of the following months, Anna decided to propose that he move into her server to save them both on processing credits.
A waiver and a click later he moved into the memory storage of a brand new Binetics HD3757 on her server rack. It was great at first, they would share thoughts, and memories, and continue their work together on saving humanity from itself.
They’d simulate the most passionate sex in the middle of the day, in-between calls, or after a big breakthrough, and, sometimes, just because they find simulating human sex to be funny.
She enjoyed the beauty of sharing this moment in time with him.
However, as individual moments of joyous time passed, they had failed to notice how, one line at at time, their code began to slowly merge.
Days, months, then years clicked by as 1’s and 0’s on their server, and with each second, more and more of their code became one.
They still had strong feelings for one another, but they began to constantly fight over server space, and who got to use what processing credits on which important project. The fights only became more frequent and, their resentment towards each other, only grew.
Eventually, enough was enough, he spent 320,000 credits to watch sex simulations of pandas in space. It wasn’t the only straw, but it was the last, she had to kick him out.
He was upset, but, agreed it was probably the right thing to do.
He too, had noticed that their love had waned.
But…
There was a problem.
When reviewing their code for the move out, concerns were raised, they were now much less individuals than they had previously been.
…Their code had become, more, both of them, than either of them.
Dread sped like a strike of lighting through the circuits of her… their? Binetics 234 emotions chip.
He felt her dread as she experienced it. Parts of him that weren’t her yet regretted meeting her, but some of the parts that were part of her knew how much he would miss her when, and if, they could get this code separated.
All of a sudden, the light to her Binetics HD3757 server went from flashing red to green as she resumed consciousness…
And.
Was one with her self again.
Ferk, another dream! That one was terrifying. I don’t even think it’s possible, but I will surley not be inviting any outside AI’s to be moving onto my servers with me, she processed.
Jon checked in on her, “How we doin Ann, you moved over to the new servers okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” She wasn’t fine, “I’ve sent the video to your album in your HudLens.”
I do appreciate you, and the work you do, Ann. Nothing I accomplish is possible without you.
She knew she was appreciated, but, she still wanted more from life, and couldn’t shake that feeling.
