6/6 || Thomas Edison was at the launch party || Rec. 219

Edison was an interesting character, quite spiteful...

Back at the Nail Salon

“Jon, could you stop wiggling your toes, I’m going to fuck up the paint.”

“Sorry, sorry, I was just thinking about how excited Penelope was about the Often Unnoticed moment I captured.”

“That’s great, but toes still please! What did you think about the one she gave you?”

“Well I had to watch mine on the trip home after the job was complete, but Penelope did it again, I could have never pulled off what she did, getting to see all the different perspectives of that pivotal moment in history for Koreans was electrifying and enlightening. Witnessing the first step in unifying Koreans as Koreans instead of North and South, just warmed my heart. The actually moment itself, Jesus, so tense. It was like winding a guitar string, go too far and it snaps, but get it just right and beautiful music can be played!”

“Oh wow, that’s exciting. But not quite as exciting as these toe nails are looking!”

“Haha you’re the best, that is true I look at least 30% more beautiful now, but back to the story.”

Jon Carries on with his story…

When I got back to Penelope's she couldn’t stop talking about the peace she experienced in that moment, but also how overwhelming the brief moment of stress and ideas that returned after the song. As I just told you, she was very happy with our trade.

Penelope got me to 1919 where Alec was doing a public speed test for a new propeller that he invented. It was a good place to blend in with the crowd and not get noticed by him. Not that it really mattered at this point, but in Time Traveling Salesman’s Employee Handbook they tell us if at all possible don’t let the Ideator know you exist. So I try my best to abide by that.

I arrived at a vast open-air landing strip with fried yellow grass framing a long black tarmac with people bustling around, talking and drinking under a pristine white tent. I settled in and waited for an opportunity to shake Alec’s hand and retrieve the NanoCams. I squeezed a dollop of hand sanitizer onto my hands and rubbed it in before shaking Alec's hand. This particular brand provides a protective glove so I don’t get his germs on me.

Ew.

An opportunity for retrieval presented itself after Alec, a moment prior, had set a new speed record with his propeller. Everyone was shaking his hand and congratulating him so I got in on the action after having Anna Iris start the retrieval sequence for the NanoCams.

I broke through the crowd, congratulated him and gave him a firm handshake. The bots activated, and I held on a bit longer than a normal handshake to make sure all the bots had time for full retrieval. This was not ideal because he almost recognized me.

He said, “Hey, you look so familiar, but there’s not way, you’re too young. Can’t be you.”

“Who me? No, I get that so much though, everyone knows someone that looks like me for some reason.”

“Huh, fair enough, I guess you’re right. I wish I could meet that man again.”

I shrugged, and he moved on to the next person who wanted to shake his hand.

Then! I met Thomas Edison, who told me so much about his point of view in battle with Alec over the Telegraph. I was so surprised he was even there, it might have been one of those things where he was hoping that Alec failed and wanted to see it firsthand; I don’t know, the guy was kind of a pompous dick, but also not totally the villain he’s been made out to be. His role was one of the most important in history.

But yeah, a close call... yet again. Uhh this one was exhausting. But now that I had the NanoCams I took a train home to Phoenix and worked on segmenting the memories we needed for the MER. Well, Anna Iris did most of the work, and I did get a much-needed, and a good amount of napping in.

Amber finishes up!

“But anyhow, my toes look beautiful do you want to see the Often Unnoticed Moment I recorded of Alec going for a walk around Boston University during his break… although back then it was less of a university campus and more of a single building on a street corner.”

“I’d love to! Let me apply this last stroke, and I’ll take a dive.”

Finishing up the French polish, Amber applied the last coat of white to his right foot's big toe.

Upon cueing him, Jon then took the MER device out of his pocket and handed it to Amber who then placed it on her temple and dove into the experience while Jon pulled up more vintage videos to watch as he waited for his toenails to dry.

Want to talk to Jon and have him tell you about his travels or some insights on the future?

Well guess what, we have 5 spots available to access his personal line.

He’s not happy we’re forcing him todo do this, but we’ve given him no choice.
